I just read an article in the Huffington Post about the republican Kansas House Speaker, Mike O'neal sending out an email using scripture to encourage his readers to pray for President Barack Obama's untimely death. I was just sitting comfortable reading the latest issue of my "O" magazine when I came across something that I felt like I just had to get out of my comfortable recliner and come blog about :-)! Yep one of those exciting "A ha" moments when you read something that so speaks to your current experience that a surge of positive feelings bubble up inside of you. (Well inside of me anyway :-)!
Read More... This is the sentiment I am feeling after my response to one of the other PTA moms I was talking with earlier while we were volunteering at school. She asked me if I'd found a church yet? This particular person and I used to sometimes meet and talk while walking for exercise on our subdivisions community walking path. She was one of the first person's I shared with during the time hubby and I were planning to resign from our ministry positions a few years back. At the time she and her hubby were going through a "maybe it's time to change churches" type situation. Later I found out that they believed God wanted them to remain at the church they were at and so they are still there. Read More...
Just so happens that the 1st day of January fell on a Sunday this year so the hubby suggested that we go to church, sigh. Since I have already agreed to do so for him and the children I didn't make a big deal out of it but only reminded him that since we went to the church he prefers last time we went, that this time we'd be going to the one I prefer (or should I say I can stomach if I have to go to church). Well I made it through the Christmas holiday ok! I was a little concerned at first because I knew my hubbies parents, and a few more relatives would be visiting with us over the holidays. Of course none of them know about me and my present state of beliefs and no longer beliefs! I thought a lot about how we would probably have to deal with the situation of going to church since this year Christmas was on a Sunday and I was sure that everyone would be expecting to go to a church service. Just looked at a video someone posted on my fb page. I must honestly admit that it is something that I believe to be true but of course at this point don't have the courage to "like" openly because I'm as you know "still in the closet". Sigh....oh well at least I have this website/blog for now. Anyway, the video is something that John Shelby Spong says about hell. Click here to view if you're interested!
Last night I watched the documentary "Banned Books of the Bible". It was very interesting to say the least. It reminded me of the time I was attending ministry class several years ago and started learning about how the bible became the bible. It was during that time that I began thinking about the bible's possible inerrancy. However, at the time as I was working toward a certificate in this particular school of ministry so I quickly squashed the doubts and carried on with the truth I'd been taught. Read More...
(Note: Actually wrote this one over a year ago.)
It was only a few days ago I joyfully celebrated my 45th birthday! I am the same age now that my mother was when she so graciously birthed me into the world in 1965 – Thanks mama!!! Of course, I absolutely cannot imagine doing the same. I love being a mother and all to our 3 beautiful children but the way of labor and delivery I want to see no more from a personal point of view. Now for friends, families and eventually my children, I’m game. Well, not for my children any time soon! Ya’ hear me!!! Anyway, back to the subject matter at hand ! Read More... It was acouple of years ago after reading Gandhian Autobiography: The Story of My Experiences with Truth that I was sitting thinking about everything I had read about the life of this amazing human being when a very saddening thought formed in my mind. This thought of course was formed by my life experiences beliefs about truth (i.e. the word of God/the bible/Jesus — these things were my absolute truth period!). So of course the thought that quickly surfaced to my mind (like rote memory) was the unfortunate “truth” that “Gandhi went straight to hell”! Like most all the Christians I know, I had been taught very well that it matters not how good a person may be, or what good the person may have done in the world when it comes to life after death. Goodness and positively impacting the world is not the pre-requisite for gaining salvation and thus making it into heaven. Read More...
In having a conversation with one of the children a few days ago I found out that they would like for us to start attending church regularly again :-O! Every since we made the decision to resign from our last ministry positions over 2 years ago our church attendance has been somewhat, can I say - sporadic to say the least. For the first time in my whole entire life I have went for over a month without going to church. Unbelievable, yep, I still can't even believe that sometimes! Read More...
